08/03/2010 Yeah, a fixed deck is easier to change the height, but I usually cut my yards all the same, so I rarely change the height, and I noticed my floating decks tend the get the back end of the deck pushed up and gets hung up and you dont even notice until you see the cut it is leaving! 11/07/2006 The primarly problem with the 48" deck on the ZTR is working parallel to slopes. The floating deck will more likely leave a sea-saw effect than the 36" floating deck. Also, when working around the base of trees, the fixed deck will not gouge as easily on the outside edge as the wider, floating deck.

06/07/2011 Any rotary mower of decent size is going to scalp in places at 1". Personally, I'd be using a reel mower if I wanted my Bermuda at 1". If you want to just discuss scalping differences between a floating and fixed deck the answer is obvious. Floating decks are less prone to scalp or nobody would buy them.

06/06/2016 I suppose you could call any mower deck that is hung by a chain to be free floating. My Ferris mower(IS700Z) is chain hung. I don't know what it would mow like if allowed to "float" since by pinning it at 2" it really cuts too low for my needs. Any lower and it would be scalping the lawn, not good for the grass to cut it that low unless you are getting rains every
