16/03/2014 When I got back to the mower, I noticed gas was dripping out of the primer bulb, apparently from a hole in the tip. I figured the bulb had dry-rotted and formed a hole. But wanting to just see if it would start, I pushed the primer bulb 3 times, covering the hole in the tip, and it started on the first pull! I let it run for only a few seconds since I'm sure it needs fresh oil.

29/05/2007 After having the mower sit for 2.5 years dry, it squirted gas out of the primer. After replacing the primer, which in reflection was useless, I found this posting. I removed the carb bowl and cleaned the float and the bowl's bottom bolt. I cleaned the bolt with a small safety pin until I could easily blow through it. It worked like a charm after reassembly.

Click to remove this tagging. 2 Answers from these members: Gas leaks out of hole in the primer bulb because the needle on the float inside the carburetor does not stop the flow of gasoline into the float bowl. The bowl overfills with gasoline and the fuel goes up into the carburetor and probably into the oil as well.

J.T. May 2007. The primer bulb for your engine should have a hole in the end of it. Briggs P/N 694395. It pressurizes the float bowl to force gas up into the carb. Gas leaking out of it may mean a damaged gasket between the air cleaner plate and the carb. Rick. October 2005.
